Early And Often Is Less Later: Why It’s So Important To Start Early

When it comes to child development, getting a head start makes the process easier. By understanding neuroscience, and how to apply it, you can make a lifelong impact in your child. To put it simply, the neurological connections your child engrains in their brain, will form their subconscious mind. This is the part of the brain that is on auto-pilot. The tools, skills, and mindset they develop at a young age begins to form their way of life. If you want to help your child to live a life of happiness here are some tools to help you out. Practicing these tools daily while they are young will ensure your child will be programmed for happiness as they grow into an adult.

Incorporate A Morning Ritual To Feel Good

The best time to get your child in a good mood, is a time when most parents themselves are struggling to stay in a good mood. Trying to get out the door! A simple way to help BOTH you and your child is by having an easy ritual that helps you and the child feel good every morning. By having a fun 4, 3, 2, 1 ritual where the kids can have a quick chance to feel grateful, happy, and really love themselves, you can redirect the frustration in the morning to an opportunity for self-empowerment. If you are looking for one that is already made, I have shared the ritual we use at our home titled Wake Up Your Magic.

Gratitude = Great Attitude

An attitude of gratitude is a phrase that has become very prevalent and with good reason. Gratitude, when felt, creates a wonderful feeling that is elicited from the release of dopamine and serotonin. When done consistently, that positive rush of chemicals begins to create a healthy addiction by your child’s body to those feel good chemicals. When your child creates a daily pattern of becoming thankful in the moment, they begin to feel better, and program their body to feel good!

Empowerment From Within

Over the past 10 years, we have seen a greater acceptance in affirmations being used as a methodology to help with personal development. A lot of the thoughts, which children have, include a self-dialogue. This is where the power of affirmations can be truly impactful. Subtle shifts in the language a child uses, when speaking to themselves, can have a powerful impact. So often we hear phrases such as “I can’t do this” or “I am not good enough”. Prompting the child to instead state to themselves “I can’t do this, yet” or “I am not good enough yet”, begins to create a shift in mindset within the child. From an attitude of giving up, they now have empowered themselves to believe they can do anything, as long as they try. While this is just one of many examples in how this can be used in day-to-day life, the lasting impact of this shift cannot be understated.

Love You First

We often associate the words “love you” as a phrase to say to others we love, however, we also can use it as a reminder to love ourselves. Telling your child “make sure that you love you first and foremost” is as important as any personal development tool. When a child can begin to love themselves, they instantly are focusing on the good within. They begin to think of themselves in a positive manner, they talk to themselves in a loving manner, and most importantly they believe in themselves. The long-term result is a child with confidence, self-esteem, and a healthy self-image. Those traits are necessary foundational pillars for anyone to build a life of happiness. Having your child walk through what they love about themselves each day, either in a conversation with you, in a written format, or engaging program, begins to lay the foundation for a happy and healthy future. The constant repetition begins to create the neurological circuitry, that ultimately leads to your child having the belief they can do or be anything they desire.

Your child’s brain and mind are constantly developing. Providing access and exposure to tools to help program healthy habits now, will ensure that later they will not require as much work in those areas. As a result, they are both programmed and enabled to create the life of happiness they desire. Every parent wants their child to be happy, so starting now seems like a no-brainer!
